Fire Retardant

Fire Retardant

Before You Start

Throughout the country Fire Marshals have very diverse requirements. Suncoast Tiki Huts strongly recommends that you discuss your intentions with your local Fire Marshall prior to commencement of your project. No guarantees as to the fire safety or the acceptability by the local governing authorities are expressed or implied by Sun Coast Tiki Huts.

Application

The products sold by Suncoast Tiki Huts can be treated after installation, or you can request to have the products supplied to you pre-fire retarded. (Not all of our products can be pre-fire retarded.) A competent person can easily apply our fire retardants .

Re-Application

  • Fire retardant on the interior of the building should last indefinitely
  • The fire retardant on the exterior of a building, exposed to weather, will eventually leach out with the rain and sunshine.
  • In a humid wet climate, the exterior fire retardant will need to be re-applied after 2-3 years.
  • In a hot dry climate, it will need re-applying after 4-6 years.

General Application Instructions

It is imperative that you follow the product specific MSDS Sheets and Application Instructions attached to the container. Follow these specific instructions closely. The general instructions listed below are for information only.

  • Good adhesion is essential. The material must be clean and free of all deposits. Smooth surfaces might require light sanding. If it is an unknown material, do a small test sample first to test adhesion.
  • The application must take place in temp. above 70^(o)F.
  • Certain products require 2-coat application with drying time between coats. Do not apply one heavy coat instead of two thin coats.
  • Fire retardants may be applied using a brush, roller, spray gun or airless spray guns.
  • Apply at the correct rate; evenly coating the surface, avoiding disturbing the surface after the fire retardant has been applied.
  • Fire retardant films should not be applied to flexible substrates, as they might separate from the substrate.
  • Where regular cleaning of coated surfaces is required, check with Suncoast Tiki Huts for suitable overcoating varnishes that improve washablity.
  • Observe all safety and health warnings on the container label.
